Frequently Asked Questions
Please see the video below for a quick overview of the process.
You will have instant access to download your eLegacy interview kit. The first interview itself will likely take between 60 and 90 minutes. Please know that you will only need 30-50 questions for the 60-90 minute interview. If you were to walk through all 150 questions it will take several conversations. If you decide to edit your video, the editing time will be based on your tech savvy, how much editing your plan to do, and which tool you choose to utilize. On average people take the same amount of time to edit as the recording they are editing.
Your eLegacy interview kit is an all digital product. You will get several documents in a pdf format so that you can download them and take them anywhere. The 150 questions will be in a pdf format, as will the recording guide. The interview tips will be a video that you can watch to be sure you create a great experience.
We have a group of highly empathetic and trained professionals. Most of them have either a coaching or therapy background. All of them are deeply excited by the work they are doing. We all have a passion for this work and know the value that it brings us just having these timecapsules of people we care about. Priceless.
If you have any trouble accessing your kit, please contact us at Support@eLegacy.net.
That is the beauty of this process. Depending on the software you choose, it can be really simple for your loved ones to join the conversation. One of our recommended softwares is Zoom, which is as simple as them joining the link you provide them. After that you start the recording and the rest of the tech is in your hands. We have other options if you are looking for a higher quality or specific experience, but trust you to know the limits of your loved ones technological abilities (or yours too).
Our founder discovered that his mother had lung cancer. She isn't a big fan of photos or videos of herself, but he knew that if something happened to her during the surgery, he would regret not having a video of her that told her story and captured her essence. He searched for a solution, and aside from paying someone $5,500 to come sit down and interview her, nothing like this existed. That seemed like a travesty to him. So he interviewed her himself and had an incredible time, got a great story, and realized how hard doing it alone without the right technology, experience, and right questions.
As a result, he created eLegacy to make the process painless and affordable for others. Luckily, his mother made it through the surgery, and he was able to re-interview her with this new format and has one of his most cherished possessions, a great video of his mother to share with his siblings and her grandchildren.
Our suggestion is to interview one person at a time when possible. This allows you to really focus on the individual. It creates a more intimate final product. However, you can certainly interview a couple if that is what you would like to have captured. Just be aware that each added person on the video will limit the number of questions you can ask and likely add to the length of the interview.
Our preference is to interview one person at a time. This allows us to really focus on the individual. It creates a more intimate final product. However, we can interview a couple if that is what you would like to have captured. No more than 2 people at a time. Each added person on the video halves the number of questions we can ask and it will feel incomplete as a final project. If you would like to capture more than 2 people at a time, please contact us at support@elegacy.net and we can discuss options and impact.
Its important to create an inviting environment and conversational atmosphere. We know that some people will still be quite uncomfortable in a situations like this, and we suggest that you make as much space for that as possible. We go into more detail in your eLegacy Kit. But please reiterate that THEY MATTER. This interview is about capturing their legacy, just as they are. There are no wrong answers or ways to mess up, perfection is NOT the point.
